A letter from Axelson Institute............
Stockholm 16 September 2008 -
Enclosed is a copy of a newly published research regarding Axelson Institute's Massage for Children program (Peaceful Touch). This long-term clinical study is a collaboration of Uppsala University, professor Anne-Liis von Knorring and professor Kerstin Uvnas Moberg and Axelsons.
The study is called: Massage decreases aggression in preschool children: a long-term study.
Its findings are significant: 5 to 10 minutes of massage per day significantly decreases aggressive tendencies in children 4 and 5 years old.
Even more important, these specific findings on aggression could suggest that the set of teacher and parent observations from years of anecdotal evidence is also true: that with regular massage from the teacher, or one another, their is improvement in concentration, empathy and group functioning, as well as lower levels of anxiety and stress. This means that the learning ability increases.
After a long wait for the study to be published, we at Axelsons and those doing "Peaceful Touch" work around the world are very excited to have clinical evidence of the benefits of the work. While we have never had any doubt as to positive results from the children's program, this research should open many more doors for "Peaceful Touch" and allow further growth of Axelson's vision that "Peaceful Touch can change the world".
Our US co-ordinator Thomas Van Demark can be reached at www.peacefultouch.net
We are planning to organize a 2 day "Peaceful Touch" course and a Swedish classical massage course in Stockholm in the summer of 2009. If you are interested to visit us in Stockholm, please contact me.
